Life is full of hard knocks. We all know this and our children are learning this all too quickly.
Instead of teaching our children that life is not fair, I believe we should teach them that life is what we make it. We should encourage them to reach for the stars, while simultaneously teaching that that it's okay to fail from time to time. The real lesson should be that we shouldn't give up on our goals just because they aren't easy to attain. We should continue to move towards those goals until we have accomplished what we set out to accomplish.
Another thing I believe is important to teach our children is that it's okay for dreams and goals to change. Maybe once we got close to or actually achieved a goal, it wasn't exactly what we thought it would be. In that case, it's okay to alter those dreams --- to reach for new and brighter stars.
To sum it up, if we aren't dreaming, we aren't living. However, our dreams are our own, subject to changing with us as we grow and learn.
